Key benefits of a neck lift
- Restores a smooth, youthful, defined contour to the neck
- Reduces the appearance of a double chin
- Eliminates loose “turkey neck” skin under the chin
- Diminishes sagging and neck creases
- Reduces fatty deposits to achieve a leaner, more defined angle between the neck and jawlin
Neck liposuction
If your skin is relatively smooth and firm but you have an accumulation of excess fatty deposits beneath your chin and /or along your jawline, neck liposuction may be all that’s needed to restore a smooth, defined contour to this area.
This can be determined during your consultation. In neck liposuction, Dr. Mentz uses a thin, hollow cannula to suction out fat through small incisions made on the underside of the chin (or in the crease around the earlobe). Removal of this excess fat diminishes the appearance of a double chin and restores a firmer, more defined angle to the neck and jawline.

I’m three weeks out from my facelift/neck lift, and I’m already ecstatic. I was really worried about looking like I had been pulled tight or had been stuck in a wind tunnel, but I look so natural. My children say I look exactly the same, except with no loose neck skin. I couldn’t be more pleased with Dr. Mentz and his staff. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Education and training
Dr. Mentz’s surgical technique
Dr. Mentz performs the neck lift procedure at his private AAAASF-certified SurgiCentre in Houston, Texas. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with light sedation, or with IV sedation. Dr. Mentz will make small incisions on the underside of the chin, or around the earlobes.
In some cases, he may also recommend liposuction to reduce excess fatty deposits. Following liposuction (if needed), Dr. Mentz will tighten and suspend the underlying muscles, then will re-position the tissues.
After trimming away excess skin, the skin is then re-draped, lifted, and sutured into place. The length of surgery varies between 1 to 4 hours, depending on whether a neck lift is performed alone or in conjunction with another procedure
Results
Although you’ll be able to notice changes over the weeks following surgery, it will be once you’ve completely healed (at approximately four months), that your final results will be visible. You will notice that your neck and jawline are much more defined, taut, and toned. These results will last for many years—particularly if you maintain a proper skincare regimen and a healthy weight.
Recovery
Your specific amount of recovery time from a neck lift will depend on if you had multiple surgeries or not. If your neck lift is combined with a facelift, you’ll stay overnight in one our recovery suites, where you will be cared for by one of our highly trained registered nurses. Dr. Mentz may also recommend a home visit by a plastic surgery nurse.
The nurse will monitor your recovery, change any dressings, assist you with your medication, and provide Dr. Mentz with an update on your condition. Your stitches will be removed in approximately one week, and most bruising fades within two weeks. Most patients can return to work in 1 to 2 weeks and resume exercise in 4 to 6 weeks, depending on Dr. Mentz’s recommendations.
During recovery from a neck lift, you can expect bruising, swelling, and some discomfort for up to one week. Any pain can be managed with oral medication. It’s important to keep your head elevated to keep swelling at bay, and you may also need to wear a compression garment for a few days.
