Sculptra Houston
Weight loss, pregnancy, and genetics are all factors that can cause the tummy to develop loose, sagging skin and a bulging appearance. Though exercise can provide limited toning benefits, no amount of exercise or dieting can restore firmness to loose skin or repair muscles that have been stretched and separated as a result of pregnancy.
What is Kybella?
According to a 2015 survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Society (ASDS), 67% of people said they were bothered by submental fullness. Kybella is a non-surgical, FDA-approved cosmetic injectable that is used in adults, created specifically to reduce a double chin.
Made of a synthetic deoxycholic acid, Kybella works over the course of multiple treatments to break down fat cells and flush them out of the body. In the weeks following treatment, that stubborn under-chin fullness will gradually become less and less.

What are the benefits of Kybella?
Kybella is a popular treatment that provides many benefits for patients who are ready to get rid of their stubborn double chin.
- Achieves a smooth, sculpted jawline
- Helps to eliminate a double chin
- Is a safe, minimally-invasive alternative to liposuction
- Requires to downtime
- Recovery period is short
- No incisions
- Utilizes a form of natural fat-destroying acid
- Achieves long-lasting results
What causes a double chin?
One of the most desirable facial features for both men and women is a sculpted chin and jawline. It’s a beautiful feature that creates a sense of continuity and flow, dividing the face into equal thirds of the brow, mid-face, and jawline.
However, a poorly defined neck or jawline can make an individual look heavier or older than they actually are — even if they are at a slim weight. Submental fat is particularly frustrating because it often comes from genetics, which makes it very difficult to get rid of, even with diet and exercise. While it can result from age or weight gain, the most common cause is inheritance.
Dr. Mentz’s procedure technique for Kybella
Before your Kybella treatment, a topical numbing agent will be used to keep any discomfort from the injections minimal. Approximately 10 to 50 injections will be administered into targeted areas underneath the chin. Treatment time is about 10 to 20 minutes, and once complete, your chin will be dressed with a compression bandage. We typically recommend 2 to 4 treatments for the best results, but the exact amount of treatments you’ll need will be determined by how severe your double chin is.

Recovery
There is very minimal downtime with Kybella. The most recovery time you should require is two days, if that. Like any injectable treatment, you may notice some swelling, bruising, and/or itching at the injection sites, but these are temporary and will dissipate within a week or two. Some patients also experience burning or numbness. Some patients see the swelling and become concerned that their double chin is becoming even larger, but don’t worry. This is normal and part of the recovery process. Once the swelling has subsided, the fat cells are permanently gone.
Results
It’s important for those who are considering Kybella to understand that results can take anywhere between 2 to 4 treatments to achieve.
In general, results can be seen after 2 to 3 treatments. And once you’re happy with the results, there is no need to return for touch-ups, unlike dermal fillers.
