Dr. Mentz Wins Best Facelift at the European Congress in Paris
Dr. Mentz continues to prove that he is one of the leading experts in facelift and facial rejuvenation procedures. An elite international panel of judges reviewed entries from around the globe, and deemed Dr. Mentz’s facelift case the most exceptional — winning him first place for the Best Surgical Facial Rejuvenation case at the 2016 Anti-Aging & Beauty Awards in Paris, France.
For the past 22 years, Dr. Mentz has been one of the leading experts in facelift and facial rejuvenation. As a Houston plastic surgeon, he trained with the skilled surgeons at St. Joseph Hospital, including the inventor of the closed rhinoplasty. He has training in General Surgery as well as Facial Plastic and Otolaryngology, which paved his way to becoming the first triple board-certified plastic surgeon in the United States.
With Dr. Mentz’s innate skill and innovative spirit, it’s no wonder he was one of four American plastic surgeons invited to speak as guests of honor at the Anti-Aging Medicine European Congress in Paris this year. He was asked to lecture on his cutting-edge techniques for three-dimensional body contouring. In his lecture, he spoke on abdominal etching, a procedure he invented in 1993 to sculpt an athletic abdomen by removing fat from around the muscle structure. He also presented his results on power-assisted fat grafting to the buttock, which allows him to quickly and safely transfer large amounts of fat into the buttock for the purpose of lifting and enhancing. Lastly, Dr. Mentz spoke on reducing pain and recovery time in tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), a topic he has committed to researching and developing since introducing the tummy tuck pain pump in 2003. His captivating lecture opened the floor to great discussion and feedback from his European peers in the plastic surgery field.
As one of the 2,000 attendees, Dr. Mentz was given the opportunity to enter a surgical case into the contest for Best Surgical Facial Rejuvenation. Of the countless facelifts and facial procedures entered, Dr. Mentz’s case was chosen as the winner and presented with the First Anti-Aging & Beauty trophy. The judging panel scored entries on excellence in anti-aging and elegance in creating natural-looking results. In addition to the trophy, Dr. Mentz was awarded a trip to Monaco to attend the Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress in April 2014.

Dr. Mentz was invited to attend the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) Aesthetic Meeting 2012 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He served as a faculty member, presenting on the topic of fat grafting using regenerative cells removed through liposuction. He has been invited to many prestigious seminars and meetings as a guest speaker to share new developments in the field of medicine.
Dr. Mentz has made several contributions to the field of plastic surgery including his chapter on the detailed and comprehensive approach to facelift surgery in the plastic surgery textbook, Advanced Surgical Facial Rejuvenation. The chapter discusses the detailed approach which helps determine the most effective lifting strategies to correct skin laxity of facial tissues.
Dr. Mentz and his ACPS colleagues, Dr. Germán Newall, Christopher K. Patronella, and the late Amado Ruiz-Razura contributed to this comprehensive guide to aesthetic plastic surgery. With emphasis on consumer education and patient safety, this book walks readers through all aspects of aesthetic plastic surgery procedures and nonsurgical cosmetic treatments so they can make educated decisions.

This award was bestowed by The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation for his article, “Thromboembolism in High Risk Aesthetic Surgery: Experience with 17 Patients in Review of 3871 Consecutive Cases,” published in 2008.
Dr. Mentz received the “Best Journal Article Award” for his research to advance the understanding and safety of high risk surgery. The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery where Dr. Mentz practices along with fellow surgeons Dr. Germán Newall, Dr. Christopher Patronella, Dr. Paul Fortes, Dr. Rolando Morales, and Dr. Kristi Hustak, is one of the few private practices in the nation that maintains a clinical research facility dedicated to producing accredited research.
