Dysport

Weight loss, pregnancy, and genetics are all factors that can cause the tummy to develop loose, sagging skin and a bulging appearance. Though exercise can provide limited toning benefits, no amount of exercise or dieting can restore firmness to loose skin or repair muscles that have been stretched and separated as a result of pregnancy.

Dysport in Houston, TX

FDA approved since 2009, Dysport is most well-known for being able to lessen horizontal lines in the forehead because it diffuses in a way that works very effectively on larger areas. However, it is also often used for crow’s feet and the vertical “frown lines” that appear between the brows. Dysport has a faster onset time than most neuromodulators, which means that you see results more quickly. This makes it an ideal treatment to have before a big event.

How Dysport works

Dysport blocks communication from the nerve to the muscle that makes the lines appear. When the muscle can’t contract, the overlying skin smooths out. When administered by a certified, experienced professional, Dysport in Houston will decrease wrinkles while still allowing you to make your familiar facial expressions. It’s all about balance — one of our favorite things at Dr. Mentz’s practice.

Before treatment, your skin will be cleansed, and if you prefer, a numbing agent will be applied. Dysport is packaged as a 300-unit vial for one single, sterile use. A small needle will administer the Dysport into 5 different facial muscles, with about 50 units in each muscle. Injections take about 10 to 20 minutes.

Recovery and results

There is very minimal downtime from Dysport injections, and most patients will be able to resume their regular day after treatment. Alcohol should be avoided for the rest of the day, and patients should not recline or lie down for six hours after treatment. Common side effects include irritation at the injection site, headache, swelling, inflammation, and nausea.
Patients should contact our office immediately if there is concern about any side effects after their treatment. Most patients begin to see improvement in their wrinkles about 2 to 3 days. Results usually last for about 4 months in most facial areas and 2 to 3 months around the mouth. We recommend scheduling touch-up treatments about 3 to 4 months apart to maintain their results.

Dysport, Botox, or Daxi?

Not only do we offer Dysport at Dr. Mentz’s Houston medical spa; we also offer Botox® and Daxi®, which are two other options for neuromodulator treatments. These treatments are all made from botulinum toxin type A and work by blocking the signal from the nerves to the muscles, but there are some key differences between them.
